Stadttheater Klagenfurt

Begin your walking tour outside the Stadttheater Klagenfurt, an elegant theatre designed by the renowned Viennese architectural firm Fellner & Helmer. From here, enter the historic heart of Klagenfurt and stroll through the surrounding streets towards the Old Town. The route quickly reveals the city's distinctive character, where Renaissance urban planning, historic town houses and later Baroque architecture come together.

Ursulinengasse

Continue along Ursulinengasse towards the Stadtpfarrkirche St. Egid, one of the most prominent churches in Klagenfurt's historic centre. The church's present Baroque appearance dates largely from the late 17th century, while its impressive Stadtpfarrturm was completed in 1709. Rising approximately 90 metres above the Old Town, the tower is one of Klagenfurt's most recognisable landmarks.

Altes Rathaus, Alter Platz

Continue into Alter Platz, one of the most atmospheric squares in central Klagenfurt. Surrounded by historic façades, cafés and shops, the square illustrates the Renaissance character that continues to define the city centre. Klagenfurt is particularly notable for its extensive pedestrianised Old Town, which allows you to explore its historic streets at a relaxed pace. The Renaissance monument was created between 1583 and 1593 from a single block of local chlorite schist. The figure of Hercules, representing the legendary slayer of the Lindwurm, was added in 1636 together with the fountain basin and decorative wrought-iron grille. Worthersee Mandl

Continue through the pedestrianised streets towards the Wörtherseemandl, a charming fountain depicting a legendary figure associated with the creation of Lake Wörthersee.
