The Kiswah Factory in Makkah is where the sacred cloth that covers the Kaaba is crafted. This black silk cloth, known as the Kiswah, is embroidered with Quranic verses in gold and silver thread and is replaced annually on the 9th day of Dhul-Hijjah. The tradition of covering the Kaaba dates back to pre-Islamic times, and today, the Saudi government oversees the production at this factory, which was established in 1927 by King Abdulaziz Al Saud. Located in the Umm Al-Joud area, about 10 kilometers from the Grand Mosque, the factory employs around 200 artisans who meticulously work year-round to produce the Kiswah. Visitors to the factory can witness the intricate processes of designing, dyeing, weaving, and embroidering, offering a fascinating glimpse into the craftsmanship and spiritual significance behind this Islamic tradition.

The Treaty of Hudaybiyyah (Sulah Hudaibiya) was a pivotal peace agreement signed in 628 CE (6th year of Hijrah) between the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), representing the Muslims of Medina, and the Quraysh tribe of Makkah. The treaty was named after the location where it was negotiated, Hudaybiyyah, situated just outside Makkah. The event took place when the Prophet, along with approximately 1,400 of his companions, embarked on a peaceful journey to perform Umrah (the minor pilgrimage) at the Kaaba. Despite their peaceful intentions, the Quraysh tribe opposed their entry into Makkah. After negotiations, both parties agreed to the terms of the treaty, which included a ten-year truce and allowed Muslims to return the following year for Umrah without conflict. Another term stipulated that any Makkans who converted to Islam and fled to Medina would be returned to Makkah, while anyone who left Medina to rejoin the Quraysh would not be sent back.
