This guided snowmobile tour offers a calm and memorable way to experience winter in Swedish Lapland. The tour starts in the village of Poikkijärvi, about 15 km outside Kiruna, and takes you through frozen rivers, snow-covered forests and open winter landscapes at a relaxed pace, with time to enjoy the surroundings and looking for northernlights. Since the Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, we stop at selected locations where you can have the chance to see it.
Before heading out, you’ll be provided with warm snowmobile clothing including helmet, overall, boots and gloves, as well as an extra top layer if needed. Our guide will give a clear safety introduction and explain how to drive the snowmobile. No previous experience is required, and the guide will make sure everyone feels comfortable before the tour begins.
To drive a snowmobile, a valid car driving licence is required. Passengers are welcome to join and enjoy the ride. The guided tour is approximately 32 km and includes several stops along the way for photos and short breaks. Halfway through the tour, we stop for a traditional Swedish fika with warm drinks and something sweet. If you wish, you can switch drivers during the break.
During the tour, we keep an eye on the sky and weather conditions, and if the northern lights appear, we take time to stop and watch them. As with all natural phenomena, sightings cannot be guaranteed as the northernlight is a natural phenomenon.
After returning to the camp, you will meet our reindeer and help feed them. The guide will share information about Sámi culture and reindeer herding, and there will be time to ask questions. At the end of the experience, you will change back into your own clothes, and our minibus will take you back to your pick-up location.
This tour is suitable for those looking for a genuine Arctic experience focused on nature, culture and a safe, well-organized snowmobile ride.
