What you can expect

  • Spend the morning or afternoon snorkeling two different sites on Molasses Reef, part of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and one of the most popular reefs in North America. With more than 25 individual dive and snorkel sites across its spur-and-groove coral system, Molasses Reef offers some of the best underwater scenery in the Florida Keys — and you don't need scuba gear to experience it.

Check in at Scuba-Fun Dive Center in Key Largo, grab your complimentary mask, snorkel, and fins, and board the boat for the short ride out to the reef. The crew gives a quick safety briefing so you know what to expect before you get in the water.

Once at the reef, you'll have plenty of time to explore at your own pace. The coral formations start near the surface and slope gradually to about 40 feet, so there's plenty to see without diving deep. Look for schools of tropical fish, nurse sharks, eagle rays, southern stingrays, barracudas, sea turtles, and vibrant coral in every direction.

Because you share the boat with certified scuba divers, you get two advantages most snorkel-only tours can't match. First, you visit two different reef locations instead of just one — divers need a surface interval between dives, so you get a second spot while they reset. Second, the captain picks sites with real depth and marine life — not the shallow sandy areas closer to shore that snorkel-only boats tend to use.

The trip lasts approximately four hours with two in-water stops. All snorkel gear is included in the price — no hidden rental fees. No experience required, but all participants must be comfortable swimmers. Kids 6 and up are welcome, and the crew is in the water nearby if you need a hand.

Please note that the captain may select alternate sites on the reef depending on sea conditions to ensure the safest and most enjoyable experience.
