Begin your tour before the city wakes up, starting at 6:30 AM. Walk through the alleys of Thamel and wind up in the ancient Asan and Indrachowk areas. Along the way, pass through hidden alleys and courtyards, and visit temples and shrines where you can take part in some of the rituals like a local. Feed birds, light butter lamps, and make offerings to the gods.

Stop at the market, street vendors, local eateries, and breakfast joints where the locals gather. Try dishes that are rarely sold outside morning hours and even if you do find them it's probably not as fresh.
