What you can expect

  • While Lake Oeschinen above Kandersteg attracts several thousand visitors from all over the world every day, the small mountain lakes at the southern end of the valley, called Arvenseeli, remain largely unknown. Perhaps this is due to the surrounding Swiss stone pine forest that hides the small lakes and thus creates a fairy tale-like scenery.

We meet at the Tourist Center in Kandersteg and take a leisurely hike through the village to the Sunnbüel mountain cable car. I will gladly tell you a few exciting stories about the history of the village and its residents. Finally, the cable car takes us comfortably up to Sunnbüel, where a unique mountain panorama awaits us. The surrounding peaks are still covered with snow well into the summer, while the first alpine flowers are already blooming at our feet.

Our circular hike takes us in about 1.5 hours to the Swiss stone pine forest and the hidden mountain lakes. After a short break, we have several options for continuing our tour. The mountain trails lead either further towards Gemmipass and Daubensee or back towards the Sunnbüel mountain station. As a further highlight, weather permitting, there is a steeper descent into the picturesque Gasteretal valley. Passing by wonderful waterfalls and unique views of the large high valley above Kandersteg.

As a trained hiking guide, I will provide you with fascinating information about the diverse flora and fauna or the geological and cultural features of this mountain region during the tour.

All options end in the afternoon at the Sunnbüel valley station, regardless of whether you choose to descend on foot or take the mountain railway.
