Begin your journey by visiting the Kasubi Royal Tombs, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Discover the royal burial grounds for four Buganda kings. See the Muzibu Azala Mpanga, the main circular house with a grass-thatched dome, rebuilt after a fire in 2010. Stand at the doorway and look inside to see royal drums that beat for the spirits of the kings.

Learn about the kings buried here, including Mutesa I, the first Buganda king to meet Arab traders and Europeans, and Mwanga II, who sent the Uganda martyrs to their death in 1888. Discover how the remains of the kings are wrapped in barkcloth and cowhide, surrounded by spears, shields, and royal regalia.

Next, head to the Wamala Royal Tombs, located in Nabweru Subcounty, Wakiso. See the burial site of Kabaka Ssuuna II, the 29th king of Buganda, who ruled from 1832 to 1856. Learn about how he was the first to allow Arab traders into Buganda in the 1840s. Discover how this is one of only two royal tomb complexes left in Uganda and is still an active site for Buganda rituals.

Finally, visit the Bagalayaze Heritage Site, the burial ground of Namasoole Abisangi Nakatya, mother of Kabaka Mwanga II, the king who ordered the killing of the Uganda martyrs. See the burial site for both Namasoole Abisangi and her successor in the main house.
