GENERAL TOUR HIGHLIGHTS:
Duration: around 2.5-4 hours
Glacier Hike: around 1-5.5 km (1-3.5 miles) depending on location of the blue feature/or ice cave
Walking distances vary, and your guide will select the safest and most scenic route for the day.
Activity level: easy to moderate, no prior glacier experience needed, but general fitness level required
Meeting point: Jökulsárlón / Glacier Lagoon, Southeast Iceland
Equipment: all necessary glacier gear is provided. Please dress warmly in layers with a waterproof outer shell and over-the-ankle hiking boots (rentals available).

Our Ice Cave Tour takes you to some of the most beautiful blue ice formation in Iceland, located on the glacier Breiðamerkurjökull, an outlet of Vatnajökull, Iceland’s largest glacier. Depending on weather and glacier conditions, this naturally formed blue ice feature can have different shapes and sizes. Varying between ice caves, tunnels or canyons, all offering an authentic and ever-changing Iceland blue ice experience. These formations are usually reached by a guided glacier hike, led by trained and experienced glacier guides. On this half-day adventure, you will step directly onto the glacier and explore vivid blue ice formations, and other ever-changing features of the ice. Guided by our experienced glacier guiding team, you’ll discover the glacier’s beauty in a safe, personal, and unforgettable way.

IMPORTANT: Iceland’s ice caves are natural, dynamic structures shaped by winter conditions. For safety and operational reasons, the cave location, glacier route, or overall tour setup may change at the last minute due to weather, ice movement, or guide assessment. These adjustments ensure the safest and most rewarding blue ice cave tour possible. Natural ice caves change throughout the winter, and a large cathedral-style cave cannot be guaranteed. The route and feature visited may be adjusted according to glacier conditions and may include a blue ice tunnel, canyon, crevasse or another natural formation combined with a glacier walk. A full refund is available when cancelling at least 24 hours before departure. Cancellations or refusal to participate after the deadline are non-refundable when the tour operates safely.

Because the glacier is constantly changing, conditions—and therefore the experience—may look very different from one week to the next. We monitor the changes daily to ensure you see the best blue ice formations of what Vatnajökull has to offer each day, with safety as our top priority.
