What you can expect

  • Begin your journey by meeting your guide and crossing the symbolic Uji Bridge into the heart of a sacred forest lined with ancient cedar trees and elegant hinoki cypress buildings constructed without the use of nails.

Learn about the deeply rooted customs, myths, and philosophies that still echo in every element of the shrine’s architecture and layout.

For a more contemplative experience, choose the early morning option to explore the shrine before it opens to the public. Enjoy the peaceful hours of dawn, with golden morning light filtering through the tall trees and the soft sounds of footsteps and wind replacing the daytime hum of visitors.

Alternatively, expand your visit by including a guided exploration of Oharaimachi, the historic district that stretches along the outer approach to the shrine. Stroll along a charming street of Edo-period architecture and enjoy time-honored local sweets like Akafuku mochi, Ise-style uiro, or skewered dango glazed with savory-sweet miso.
