Right at the start of this enchanting hike, you will be greeted by unique views of the picturesque village of Sant'Angelo in the south and, after a short ascent, also of Forio in the west of the island. We then hike along the high trail through a field of boulders and a small black locust forest until we reach a chestnut forest. Here, in this quiet, densely wooded plateau, we will discover huge moss-covered boulders, the rustic rock houses, and the deep snow pits from centuries past. Nature has used its power to shape many of the large and small boulders into bizarre figures, thus creating a magical forest of stone. For our well-deserved lunch break, we will stop at a traditional, rustic mountain restaurant near Santa Maria al Monte. The restaurant, which has a fantastic panoramic terrace, was originally also a rock house! Well-fortified, we finally set off on the descent to Forio, where the hike ends.

Geologist's tip: It's best to bring your camera! There are countless fantastic photo opportunities, not just of the landscapes and unique rock formations. We will also be happy to take a picture of you with a menhir on your back or a special portrait in a stone frame. Last but not least: Wear well-fitting shoes so that walking is more comfortable, and bring lots of good cheer and a light jacket.
