  • Did you know that the queer scene in Los Angeles began in downtown LA and NOT in West Hollywood?

    Intro to Queer LA is meant to walk you through Los Angeles queer history, from the indigenous two-spirit people (later recognized as joyas by Spanish colonizers) to the huge popularity of the “pansy performers” (female impersonators) to the legislative battles won at City Hall and the LA Superior Court.

    We'll also talk about the first institution in the country to offer graduate degrees in Homophile Studies and the first documented queer uprising (that took place almost a decade before the uprising at the Stonewall Inn in New York!).

    To know where we came from is to fully understand our present, and Intro to Queer Los Angeles is an experience you won't want to miss!
