Huayna Picchu Mountain is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Machu Picchu. Every year, thousands of people come here to hike its trails and take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Although the hike is not particularly challenging, some parts are steep and slippery, especially during the rainy season. It takes about two hours to complete this trek, but the reward is incomparable: from the top, you can see the grandeur of Machu Picchu, the lost city of the Incas.

The tour begins inside the Sanctuary of Machupicchu near the sector called Sacred Rock, there are many park rangers you will not miss.

Getting to the top will take you approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes to return by the same path. Inside the Machu Picchu mountain, you will find steep and narrow stairs known as the “stairs of death”. You can also find terraces, temples, and enjoy the fantastic views that this incredible place offers.

According to local guides and historians, on this peak resided a high priest responsible for astronomical observations. It was also the site of religious ceremonies where offerings were made to the local gods.

In order to climb this mountain, you will need to buy tickets well in advance.
