Your itinerary:

From Huaraz, we'll head along the Huaylas alley to the village of Carhuaz, where we'll turn east towards Punta Olímpica. After a 2.5-hour transfer, you'll arrive at the Punta Olímpica Tunnel, which, at 4736 meters above sea level, is listed as the highest trans-Andean tunnel in the world. Here, our guide will give us the guidelines for the mountain day, and we'll start our ascent to Nevado Mateo. We'll put on our mountain gear: helmet, harness, and boots. The ice axe and crampons will go in the backpack until you reach the glacier and use them.

The approach to the glacier is along a well-marked zigzag path. You'll also have to cross some rocky sections, and the guide will be constantly giving instructions on how to use the mountain equipment correctly. Finally, the guide will set up the rope system to ensure our safety during the ascent and descent of the mountain.

During the ascent to Nevado Mateo, you can enjoy the sunrise and the surrounding mountains, such as: Huascarán Sur and Norte, Chopicalqui, Ulta, Contrahierbas, a large part of the Ulta gorge, and some lagoons in the area: Laguna Pacllash and Laguna Chacllacocha.

Definitely a path to the summit with excellent visual mastery. From the top, you can admire the entire landscape and other notable lagoons, such as Cancaragá and Yanaraju. Finally, you'll head back down the same route. The transport will be waiting to take us back to the city of Huaraz.
