What you can expect
Activity 1 (90 minutes)
Go back 1,500 years in time at Huaca Pucllana, an imposing adobe pyramid in the heart of Miraflores. This tour reveals the spiritual center of the pre-Inca Lima Culture (200–700 AD), showcasing an architectural genius that has survived for almost two millennia.
What you'll do: Climb the ramps of a 22-meter-high pyramid built with millions of handmade mud bricks. You'll discover the architectural secret of the 'book technique,' which protects the site from earthquakes. You'll explore ritual plazas, active excavation areas, and a traditional garden that's home to llamas, alpacas, and ancestral crops such as quinoa and coca.
What you'll see: From the top, enjoy a 360-degree view where ancient ruins meet modern skyscrapers. You'll see tombs of the Wari Empire elite, sacred ceramic offerings in the site museum, and the unique Hairless Dog of Peru. Whether under the sun or dramatically lit at night, you'll witness the impressive clash of eras that defines Peru.
Activity 2 (30 minutes)
Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and enter El Olivar, a serene forest of ancient olive trees in the heart of San Isidro. This National Monument dates back to 1560 and offers a peaceful look at Lima's colonial and republican past.
What you'll do: You'll stroll through a living forest of over 1,500 olive trees, some of them planted almost 500 years ago. You'll explore the charming surrounding neighborhood, famous for its traditional architecture and hidden libraries. It's the perfect place for a relaxing walk, birdwatching, and learning about the history of oil production in colonial Peru.
What you'll see: You'll marvel at the twisted, centuries-old trunks of the olive trees and the beautiful central lagoon where the locals feed the ducks. You'll see over 30 species of birds, including the brilliant turtupilín (vermilion flycatcher). The park is framed by some of Lima's most beautiful mansions, a picturesque fountain, and the iconic San Isidro municipality, making it a photographer's dream.
