The trail up Lion’s Head follows a spiraling path that circles the mountain. At one point, the trail gives way to rough terrain where you must step up and use your hands to scramble over rocks. You then continue steeply upward to the first ladder, before traversing along a narrow ledge with a chain handrail. Next, you reach a fork where you can either veer left to bypass two rock pitches or turn right to use the 2 ladders. If you prefer to avoid vertical rock steps, continue left past large pine trees to reach the crest of the southeast ridge. At the summit of Lion’s Head, a 360-degree view awaits; it is one of the three iconic peaks framing the city of Cape Town. With Table Mountain as its backdrop, it lies within the smallest yet richest floral kingdom in the world. Gradually, the city lights will switch on or off, revealing a constantly changing panorama. A headlamp will be provided when needed. The descent takes a minimum of 60 minutes.
