What you can expect
Depart by car to Snow Town, China. Originally named Shuangfeng Forest Farm, Snow Town is located at the junction of Zhangguangcai Ridge and Laoye Ridge, covering an area of 500 hectares. The entire region sits above 1,000 meters in elevation, with long snow seasons and frequent snowfall.
Enter the pristine forest and admire the birch trees while feeling the heroic spirit of Yang Zirong in the snowy wilderness. Ride a traditional horse-drawn sleigh, singing Northeast folk songs and experiencing one of the oldest modes of transportation in the region. Whip in hand, gallop across the snowy landscape.
Explore the unique local bandit culture: visit the bandit meeting hall, experience the “wedding room” tradition, and check out the bandit hideouts. Participate in interactive activities such as mock bride-snatching, experiencing the folklore of “no worries with a beard, wife and kids at home.”
Travel along the Yaxue Mountain Highway, a key route connecting Yabuli and Harbin, offering the most convenient, fastest, and picturesque access to Snow Town. Here, you’ll find miles of ice and snow, a fairy-tale winter world, and filming locations for Northeast folk stories.
If lucky, you’ll witness the breathtaking natural phenomenon of rime — often called the Alps of the East. Don’t forget to capture it with your camera.
Ride a snowmobile through the snowy forests and across the expansive snowfields for a thrilling experience. Climb to the mountaintop, roll around in the snow, and lie on the soft, cotton-like snow. Admire the crystal-clear alpine pines and frost-covered trees, forgetting the cold entirely.
Step into a world of pure white in the “Ice & Snow Gallery,” where the snow reaches waist height in some areas. Walk through the forests and snowfields to visit local homestays and bandit-themed attractions. Experience Shaman culture, visit sites linked to popular animated characters, and enjoy activities like the snow carousel and snow dragon — a perfect chance to relive childhood memories.
Experience the early morning charm of Snow Town. Vendors dressed in traditional coats sell local treats, creating a festive atmosphere. Try regional snacks such as glutinous rice balls, sugar cakes, frozen persimmons, and other frozen fruits. Chat with local residents, take the kids to buy candied hawthorn skewers, or dive into the thick white snow — all to feel the authentic “Old Northeast New Year” vibe.
Stop at the Snow Town Post Office to send a postcard to your future self, preserving the memories of your journey. Stroll along the town’s most distinctive street, breathe in the fresh air, and admire the snow hanging from rooftops to the ground, forming unique “snow curtains.” After enjoying the night scenery (around 5:30 PM–6:00 PM), depart by car to return to Harbin.
