“This is not a performance. It's an invitation into everyday Kyoto life.”
Step away from the busy streets and into a world that has remained unchanged for 150 years.
■ A Guided Tour of Living History
Before the ceremony, your host walks you through the 150-year-old townhouse — its architecture, the stories of the merchants who lived here, and the quiet philosophy embedded in every room.
■ Tea Ceremony the Way It Was Meant to Be
Seated comfortably at a table, you will watch a live demonstration by a practitioner with 16 years of training. Every movement is explained clearly in English - not just what it is, but why it matters. Then it's your turn! Using a rare Misonodana tea shelf, whisk your own matcha with practitioner-only top-grade tea. Get simple techniques to recreate this calm at home.
■ A Garden & Tea Room That Change With the Seasons
No two visits are ever the same. The garden, tea room, utensils, hanging scroll, and seasonal plant-based sweets all change to reflect the time of year.
Spring — Soft blossoms and sakura-inspired sweets.
Summer — Cool shade and refreshing, light confections.
Autumn — Crimson leaves and rich, warming sweets.
Winter — A frost-touched garden and a quiet, glowing tea room.
Come back in a different season, and you will discover a completely different JURAKU.
