Sangumburi Crater

Jeju Sangumburi Crater is a parasitic volcanic crater of Hallasan Mountain. It is the only submerged volcano in Jeju Island. The outer circumference of the crater is 2,067m, the inner circumference is 756m, and the depth of the crater is 100-146m, forming a conical cliff, and the floor area is about 8,000 pyeong. The crater rarely ejected lava, only a hole was dug deep by the explosion, and the material from the explosion was scattered in all directions and only a small amount accumulated around it. Although the diameter and depth of the crater are larger than that of Baeknokdam, the water does not accumulate and flows out to the sea through the basalt gravel layer of the crater wall. Such a crater is called a maar, and Sangumburi Crater is unique in Korea, and there are only a few in Japan and Germany worldwide. Mulyeongari Parasitic Cone is a volcanic cone with a crater lake at the top. The total area is 717,013㎡, the circumference is 4,339m, the altitude is 508m, and the height is 128m. In 2000, it was designated as a wetland protection area for the first time in the country under the Wetland Conservation Act, and in 2007, it was designated and protected as a Ramsar wetland. From ancient times, a legend has been passed down that if the mountain god of this Oreum gets angry, the crater area will be enveloped in fog and thunderstorms and heavy rain will pour down. Baekyakyi Oreum is located about 3.5 km northeast of the entrance of Seongeup 2-ri, Pyoseon-myeon. It is an oreum located on the border with Songdang-ri, Gujwa-eup, and it is called Baekyak-i Oreum (百藥岳) because many medicinal herbs have grown wild since ancient times. It is in the shape of a round crater (gumburi), and medicinal herbs such as dandelion flower, fragrant oil, mugwort, millet, honey plant, and iron knee grow wild inside.
