The Kelpies are a tribute to the Clydesdale horses used to pull barges on the canals of Scotland in the 19th century .
The Kelpies were mystical and dangerous water creatures . In mythology , the Kelpies could rise out of the sea in the form of a horse and grab a sheep and then disappear back into the sea.
A one hour boat trip over the Wheel is available ( optional extra, bookable separately )
