What you can expect

Day 1: The Fort, Palaces & Heritage Core

Start your day at Gwalior Fort, one of India's most magnificent forts. Explore the Man Singh Palace, Sas Bahu Temples, Teli Ka Mandir, and the Jain rock-cut sculptures. Spend 2.5–3 hours soaking in the history and architecture.

Next, head to Gujari Mahal, a small museum with artifacts from the region’s history. Once the palace of Queen Mrignayani, this museum offers a glimpse into the past. Spend about 45 minutes here.

Take a lunch break at one of the recommended spots: Indian Coffee House, Kwality Restaurant, or Param Food Complex.

In the afternoon, visit Jai Vilas Palace & Museum, the royal palace of the Scindia dynasty. Marvel at the world’s largest chandelier, the opulent durbar hall, and antique collections. Spend 2 hours exploring the palace.

End your day at the Sun Temple (Surya Mandir), inspired by the Konark Sun Temple in Orissa. Enjoy the peaceful setting, especially at sunset. Spend 30–45 minutes here.

In the evening, attend the Gwalior Fort Light & Sound Show at Man Singh Palace. The show narrates the fort’s history in Hindi or English. Spend about an hour here.

Day 2: Culture, Music, and Temples

Begin your day at the Tansen Tomb & Tomb of Mohammad Ghaus. Visit the resting place of Tansen, one of Akbar’s 9 gems, and admire the peaceful gardens and Indo-Islamic architecture. Spend 1 hour here.

Optionally, visit the Gwalior Zoo, a small, family-friendly zoo near the Phool Bagh area. Spend 1 hour exploring the zoo.

Next, head to Sarod Ghar, a museum dedicated to Indian classical music, founded by Ustad Hafiz Ali Khan. Spend 45 minutes here, perfect for music lovers.

Take a lunch break and try street food at SS Kachoriwala or enjoy luxury dining at Silver Saloon Restaurant.

In the afternoon, choose between a half-day trip to Mitawali-Padawali-Bateshwar or local shopping and relaxation. If you opt for the trip, explore ancient temples and ruins in the peaceful countryside, great for photographers and heritage lovers. Spend 3–4 hours here.

Alternatively, explore Patankar Bazaar or Sarafa Bazaar for handicrafts, leather juttis, and stone carvings. Optionally, visit the Chhatris of the Scindia dynasty.
