Swimming with your horse in the open Pacific is one of the rarest equestrian experiences in Costa Rica — and at Riding Escapes, an ethically-run farm founded by a South African entrepreneur committed to horse welfare, it's the centerpiece of this tide-scheduled private tour.
You'll start at the farm in Matapalo with a safety briefing and horse pairing led by certified local horsemen trained in the “Connect with Horses” method — a horsemanship approach built on trust rather than dominance. From there you'll ride to Playa Puerto Viejo and Playa Conchal for a 60-minute beach ride, with sightings of monkeys and iguanas along the way.
Then comes the highlight: at low tide, you'll enter the ocean with your horse and spend 30 minutes or more swimming together in the Pacific — a moment few travelers ever experience. Group size adjusts swim time: larger groups stay in the water longer so everyone gets their turn.
The tour is private (minimum 2 riders, up to 15) and tide-dependent — start times shift daily, so we'll confirm yours after booking. Helmets, towels, free photos & videos, water and sunscreen included. Life jackets on request.
