What you can expect
Visit the Norwegian Fjord Centre (Norsk Fjordsenter), the official World Heritage center for the Geirangerfjord area. Learn about how the fjords were formed, how people have lived in this landscape, and why the area is protected today.
Explore traditional, authentic, and modern exhibitions. Discover a way of life that no longer exists by walking through real wooden farm buildings, including log houses and timber-framed structures. A replica of an old steam boat adds to the experience.
As you move through the exhibition, learn about how the fjords were formed, the geology of the area, and its biodiversity. The experience is designed as a continuous walk where stories, landscapes, and history are brought together.
The UNESCO exhibition tells the story of how the World Heritage List came into being, and why it is so important to protect our unique, shared heritage. You can also explore World Heritage sites all around the world, and get to know the Norwegian sites in particular. Through touch screens, films, and interactive elements, learn why these places are protected, what challenges they face, and why it is important to take care of them for the future.
Outside, there is a spacious area with facilities for visitors, including electric car charging and a playground for children.
