What you can expect

  • Begin your adventure with a 35-minute walk through the forest, where you can spot two out of three kinds of monkeys found in Gambia: the friendly green vervet monkey and the red colobus, known for their red bellies and grey backs.

Next, drive to Bakau to visit the Crocodile Pool, a pond full of crocodiles. Learn about the local belief in the pool's healing powers. Sprinkle yourself with the water, which is said to bring prosperity and aid pregnancy.

Pass by Serrekunda, the largest town in the country, and visit a tie and dye batik factory owned by a Gambian woman who has been in the business for over 30 years. Witness a display of batik production and enjoy an hour to shop for reasonably priced items.

Stop by the animal meat market and learn about the meat culture of Gambia and other traditions from your guide. Then, take a coffee break at Lamin Lodge and enjoy views of the River Gambia.

Continue to Brikama, Gambia’s second-largest town, and visit a wood carving factory. Purchase beautiful carvings made of mahogany and other tree types.

Enjoy a lunch break at the Paradise Beach Bar & Restaurant. Finally, end your day with a stop at Tanji, a larger fishing village in Gambia.
