The Candelaria Caves were discovered in 1974. They used to be a sacred place for the Mayan Q'eqchi' people of the region and nowadays it is a sanctuary for flora and fauna, and it has been declared a National Park. The caves are surrounded by lots of greenery and hills which are home to hundreds of animals. During this breathtaking adventure, we´ll walk down to the infraworld as the Mayans used to believe. Proof of that is all the numerous architectural elements that were discovered such as walls, stairs, platforms, cornices, and graphic representations engraved on stones, among others, in addition to some ceramic items and artifacts found in them. You will feel the time is short for all the activities you can do here. Starting with the adventure of walking inside these huge but charming caves. Then, drench in the natural pools roofed by the rock formations. By last, enjoy a relaxing tubing tour in the Candelaria River, and end this day with a flourish.

Returning to Cobán will take us approximately 2 hours. You can take advantage of this time to relax and enjoy the road and the beautiful views of this area full of green landscapes.
