The shrine is believed to have been established following the miraculous transportation of the Holy House of Nazareth by angels to Trsat in 1291, before it was later moved to Loreto, Italy. This event is commemorated by the shrine and attracts many pilgrims annually. The shrine complex includes the Church of Our Lady of Trsat, a beautiful example of Gothic and Baroque architecture. At the heart of the shrine is the revered icon of Our Lady of Trsat, a Byzantine-style painting of the Virgin Mary holding the Christ Child. This icon is believed to have miraculous powers and is a focal point for the faithful who come to seek solace and blessings. Adjacent to the shrine is a Franciscan monastery, which has been a center for religious education, cultural preservation, and community service for centuries. The monks of the monastery play a crucial role in maintaining the shrine and assisting pilgrims.

Adjacent to the Shrine are the historic ruins of Trsat Castle.It is a historic fortress located in the Trsat district of Rijeka, Croatia. Perched on a hill 138 meters above sea level, it offers a commanding view of the city, the Rječina River, and the Kvarner Bay. This ancient castle is not only a significant cultural landmark but also a popular tourist destination due to its historical importance, architectural beauty, and panoramic views. Trsat Castle dates back to the prehistoric times when it served as a strategic lookout point. It was later developed into a fortification during the Roman era. The castle's medieval structure was constructed in the 13th century by the Frankopan family, one of Croatia's most influential noble families. The elevated position of Trsat Castle offers spectacular views of Rijeka, the Adriatic Sea, and the surrounding landscapes. The viewing terraces are perfect spots for photography and appreciating the natural beauty of the area.

After visiting Trsat Hill in Rijeka, we will embark on a panoramic ride through the city, heading towards our next destination: Kastav. It's a picturesque town located on a hilltop near Rijeka. Known for its rich history, cultural heritage, and stunning views of the Kvarner Bay. Kastav's old town is characterized by narrow cobblestone streets, well-preserved medieval buildings, and stone houses that reflect its historical significance. The town's fortifications include well-preserved city walls and several gates, such as the Voltice Gate and Vrata Gate, which provide a glimpse into Kastav's defensive past. Church of St. Helen (Sveta Jelena Krizarica): This Baroque church, dedicated to St. Helen, the town's patron saint, is a prominent landmark in Kastav. It features a beautiful facade, intricate interior decorations, and an impressive bell tower. The historic Town Loggia, located on the square, dates back to the 16th century and was used for public meetings and court sessions.

Opatija is a beautiful coastal town situated on the Adriatic Sea in western Croatia, known for its long history as a fashionable resort and its stunning architecture, lush parks, and elegant promenades. Often referred to as the "Pearl of the Adriatic," Opatija has been a popular destination since the 19th century, attracting visitors with its mild climate, picturesque landscapes, and sophisticated atmosphere. Along the promenade, visitors can admire historic villas and grand hotels that date back to the Austro-Hungarian era, showcasing beautiful architecture and gardens. Church of St. James (Crkva Sv. Jakova): Located in the heart of Opatija, this small church dates back to the 15th century and is considered the town's oldest building. It was originally part of a Benedictine abbey. Near the church, visitors can see the iconic statue of the "Maiden with the Seagull," a symbol of Opatija, which stands on a rock by the sea.

Once we complete our exploration of Opatija, a relaxed two-hour drive back to Zagreb awaits us.
