Description

A unique combination of British, Malaysian, and Moorish style highlights the sights you can see in the historic city of Ipoh. Join a knowledgeable guide to experience the distinct culture, try some local foods, and admire some of the most beautiful architecture in the country.

The tour begins when you board an air-conditioned vehicle to set out for the ride to Ipoh. Here, you get a tasty breakfast and some morning tea as your guide shows you some of the best places to try the flaky, jam-filled kaya puffs and some hor hee fish cakes.

Next, get a look at the British colonial influence in the design of the grand Ipoh Town Hall, the exquisite neo-Moorish and neo-Saracenic features woven into the design of the Ipoh Railway Station, and the majestic column of the Birch Memorial Clock Tower. Make a stop to try out some of the city's famous white coffee on your way out to the Gunung Lang recreational park, home to a cascading waterfall, a mini zoo, and a long boardwalk that takes you through the wilderness.

After a visit to the magnificent cave temples of Perak Tong, home to more than 40 Buddha statues amid its hidden grottoes, head back for a walk through the city markets to try a whole range of local Malay treats. Get some curry noodles, fried turnips, caramel custard, or chicken rice, and then try a traditional dessert like sugary rice balls known as muah chee before the ride back to Kuala Lumpur.

The trip was not what I expected. The travel To Ipoh was very long but made very pleasant by the bus operator and guide. Cigar and his second were great. We met Sammy in Ipoh and he was an amazing knowledge of the history of Ipoh. The tour of Ipoh was fantastic in a very unique way. Then the urangutan reserve was a fitting end before we headed back to KL.
