Al-Shahba is what is called the most famous landmark in Nizwa; it’s Nizwa Fort, a combination of a castle, a fort, and a museum distinguished by its unique architecture. It’s also considered one of the oldest forts in Oman, as it was built in the seventeenth century.

Step back in time and experience the charm of the 1,500-year-old Al-Aqar neighbourhood, one of Nizwa’s most historic and authentic quarters. Stroll through its narrow alleys surrounded by traditional mud-brick houses and ancient architecture, and feel the spirit of Omani heritage come alive. The neighbourhood is enclosed by a two-kilometre wall and features four historic gates known as “Sabahat”, each telling a story of Nizwa’s rich past and community traditions.
