Sazan island is located in the center of the Bay of Vlora and is the largest in all Albania. Formally Sazan island today is still a military base, with several active bunkers with rooms and food supplies. In fact, however, there are only two soldiers patrolling its grounds. Starting in 2015, the Albanian government opened Sazan to tourism. Given the small human presence over the centuries, Sazan is in fact an oasis of peace, uninhabited and unspoiled. Visually, the only trace of human presence is represented by the dense network of underground tunnels and bunkers built in the communist era. The communist regime built them during the Cold War – with the world divided into two blocks, the fear of a nuclear war was very high.

The Karaburun Peninsula is 15 kilometers long and 4 kilometers wide, which reaches a height of 800 meters above sea level at the highest point. The area retains some of the most beautiful Albania beaches.

You will then get on the boat again to reach one of the most precious gems of the Karaburun-Sazan marine area in a few minutes. This is the Illyrian Cave, also called Haxhi Ali Cave, in honor of the legendary Albanian pirate who lived between 1500 and 1600. During the time of stay in the cave, each participant can choose to snorkel or enjoy a drink on the boat!
