What you can expect

After pickup from your hotel, we will set off toward the charming village of Santillana del Mar. Along the way, we will travel for several kilometers on the Camino del Norte, one of the historic pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela. This peaceful secondary road winds through small villages and scenic countryside before reaching our destination.

Once in Santillana del Mar, we will explore the historic center on foot, as it is entirely pedestrianized. Strolling along its cobblestone streets, you’ll admire medieval houses, towers, and palaces that seem frozen in time. Highlights include the Collegiate Church of Santa Juliana, a 12th-century masterpiece and one of Cantabria’s finest examples of Romanesque architecture. After the guided walk, you’ll have free time to browse local shops or relax with a drink.

Our journey continues to the Altamira Museum and Research Center, home to the world-famous Altamira Cave. Often referred to as the “Sistine Chapel of Rock Art,” the cave has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985. Discovered in 1879 by Cantabrian lawyer Marcelino Sanz de Sautuola, Altamira is renowned for its extraordinary Paleolithic paintings. As access to the original cave is highly restricted, we will visit the neo-cave—a faithful and immersive replica that offers an excellent opportunity to understand and appreciate the prehistoric art left by our ancestors.
