Leaving the City of Oaxaca, just 17 km away from the down town, we will travel to the destination of the Etla Valley, where “Quesillo and Paper” is the distinctive artisanal commercial activity of this place. First, we will visit a former hydroelectric plant located in San Agustín Etla, where there is a cooperative dedicated to making paper with natural fibers from the region, such as tree bark, branches, flowers, pigments, and cotton. This workshop offers items for sale, such as notebooks and handmade paper jewelry.
We will also visit the Center of the Arts in San Agustín, known as CaSa, an enigmatic building due to its architecture and contemporary art exhibitions. The spectacular Ex Fábrica de Hilados y Tejidos La Soledad, founded in 1883, where raw cotton fabric was manufactured, is iconic for its architecture and exhibitions of contemporary art and culture.
And to conclude, discover the secrets of Quesillo, a cheese with a unique texture and flavor. Among all the cheeses in the world, this one originates from Oaxaca and is created within a cheese-producing family that also makes quesillo and requesón. This is the final part of the excursion.
