Your day begins early with a morning pick-up from your hotel or riad in Marrakech. After meeting your driver and fellow travelers, depart in a comfortable air-conditioned minibus towards the majestic High Atlas Mountains. The road winds through spectacular mountain scenery, Berber villages, and terraced valleys as you climb toward the Tizi n’Tichka Pass — one of the highest in North Africa at 2,260 meters above sea level. You’ll enjoy several photo stops along the way to capture panoramic views of the mountain peaks and traditional mud-brick villages.
Continue the drive through the rugged landscapes toward the UNESCO-listed village of Ait Ben Haddou, one of Morocco’s most iconic sites. This ancient fortified ksar has been featured in countless films and TV productions such as Gladiator, The Mummy, and Game of Thrones. Upon arrival, you’ll have free time to explore the village on your own, walk through its narrow lanes, and admire the stunning architecture of the earthen kasbahs. You can also enjoy a traditional Moroccan lunch at a local restaurant overlooking the ksar (meal not included).
After lunch, the journey continues to the nearby city of Ouarzazate, often called the “Gateway to the Sahara.” Here, you can visit the famous Atlas Film Studios or the historic Taourirt Kasbah (entrance fees not included). Ouarzazate has long been a favorite filming location for international movies due to its unique desert landscapes and light.
In the afternoon, start your return journey to Marrakech via the same scenic mountain pass. You’ll arrive back in the city by early evening, where your driver will drop you off at your accommodation — marking the end of an unforgettable day discovering Morocco’s cinematic desert gateways and mountain views.
