Step into a truly local experience at Butrint Lake, one of Albania’s most unique ecosystems, known for its fresh and flavorful mussels.
Your journey begins in Ksamil, where you board a traditional handmade boat and head toward the calm waters of the lake. Along the way, your guide will introduce you to the history of mussel cultivation in the area, sharing interesting facts and local insights that you won’t find elsewhere.
Once you arrive, the experience becomes hands-on. For a short time, you’ll step into the role of a local farmer, collecting and cleaning mussels directly from the lake. It’s a simple but memorable activity that connects you with the tradition behind the food.
Afterward, you’ll head to a quiet restaurant surrounded by nature near the lake. Here, the chef prepares your freshly collected mussels in two traditional ways: boiled and grilled with olive oil, lemon, and basil. Your meal is served with fresh salad, homemade bread, and local wine.
Take your time to relax, enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, and if you wish, cool off with a swim near the lake’s shore. The experience ends with a scenic boat ride back to Ksamil, often accompanied by beautiful sunset views.
