The Copalita Archaeological Zone is located on the western bank of the Copalita River, very close to the Bahias de Huatulco tourist development. The first occupation of this pre-colonial settlement dates back to the middle pre-classic period, at this time the construction of ceremonial platforms and residential terraces on the hills adjacent to the sea cliffs was already evident.

The classic period is the peak of this city where there is already a ceremonial center that contains a ball game and a main building of more than 20 meters high and which in turn contains, so far two tombs associated with the ruling elite.
