What you can expect
Trek through the Lares Valley on a 4-day adventure from Cusco. Admire the natural beauty of the valley, take a dip in the thermal pools, and visit the Machu Picchu.
Day 1: Cusco - Lares - Cuncani
Depart from your hotel in Cusco and head to the Sacred Valley. Stop in Calca to buy any last-minute items for the hike. Cross the Amparaes Pass, located at 4650 meters, and take in the stunning mountain views.
Arrive at the natural and relaxing pools of the Lares Valley. Take a dip in the thermal waters to prepare for the next hike. After a break, continue on to Cuncani. Explore the area for a few hours before stopping for lunch.
After lunch, head to the campsite in Cuncani for the night.
Day 2: Cuncani - Pumahuanca Pass - Paccha
After breakfast, head to the Pumahuanca Pass. If the weather is good, enjoy the view of the Colque Cruz, a mountain crowned by a glacier that provides water to various communities in the area.
As you approach the Pumahuanca Pass, the trail becomes steeper and rockier. Pass high-altitude lagoons as you make your way to the top.
Once you reach the summit, be amazed by the views of the Pampa de Anta. After enjoying the natural beauty, descend and cross a beautiful forest of 'Polylepis' trees, which are endemic to the Andes and in danger of extinction.
Leave this area behind and arrive at the Paccha campsite for the night.
Day 3: Paccha - Piscigranja - Ollantaytambo
After breakfast, visit a fish farm in Pumahuanca to learn how fish farms work. After a few hours of walking, transfer to a private vehicle to the Ollantaytambo train station.
Take a train to Aguas Calientes, the town of Machu Picchu, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Upon arrival, be picked up by hotel staff to help with your bags. Stop to relax and have a delicious dinner.
Day 4: Ollantaytambo - Machu Picchu
Wake up early and have breakfast before heading to Machu Picchu. After a 25-minute bus ride, arrive at the main entrance to the sanctuary. Take a 2-hour guided tour of the site.
After the tour, have free time to explore the site on your own. Return to Aguas Calientes by bus and have lunch on your own. Take the train back to Ollantaytambo, where you will be transferred back to Cusco.
