What you can expect

  • This experience starts in Bogotá at 6:50 AM, from where we'll take a van-type public transport for 1 hour and 15 minutes to the town of Choachí. From there, we'll take a 4WD vehicle that will take us for 50 minutes to the start of the trail. During this time, we'll have the opportunity to see beautiful Andean landscapes, with rugged mountains and rural roads.

Around 9:30 a.m., we'll be at the trek's starting point, where we'll be joined by an additional local guide, a member of the farmers' association that has successfully carried out an ecosystem restoration process in this area. Our experience will be led by local guides who will gradually tell us about and show us all the ecological and biological details of this incredible ecosystem.

We'll gradually ascend through the forest, passing the agricultural boundary and the recovering forests until we reach the primary forest, where we'll find the tallest frailejón forest in the world. This place is considered endemic to Colombia and Choachí. This beautiful forest is home to the Andean bear, so there are several chances of spotting one on some of the trails we'll be hiking.

We'll see exotic orchids, birds, huge trees, and an incredible diversity of Andean flowers. During the tour, our guide will share fascinating details about several of the species we'll encounter. It's an immersion in knowledge and mountaineering.

After hiking for almost 2 hours, we'll reach Lake Paramillo, a beautiful lake fed directly by waters from Chingaza and the buffer forest. At this point, we'll have lunch with the snacks we each brought and enjoy a break with a spectacular view of the forest.

Afterward, we'll head to the Bear Vantage Point, a hill that offers a view of the entire forest. To get there, we'll have to cross the fog forest, which is incredibly well-preserved and known as the Primary Forest.

We'll enjoy the ascent and descent to our next stop, the Tuche Waterfall, where we can cool off if the day is sunny or do a meditation to soak up the tranquility of the place and the power and energy of the sound of the water.

From here, we'll continue our descent until we get back to the 4WD vehicle, return to the entrance of the rural tourism association, then to Choachí, and finally to Bogotá.
