    Mount Ijen, located in East Java, Indonesia, is an active stratovolcano standing at 2,799 meters (9,183 feet). It's famous for its Ijen Crater Lake, a turquoise acidic lake, and the rare blue flames visible at night due to ignited sulfur gases.

    Ijen is also known for its sulfur mining, where miners extract sulfur from the crater vents in dangerous conditions without protective gear. The volcano last erupted in 1999 but remains active, with regular sulfur emissions.

    Tourists hike to the summit for panoramic views, often overnight to see the blue flames and sunrise. The area is part of the Ijen Volcano Complex Nature Reserve, home to diverse wildlife like the Javanese Eagle.
