Your day begins at 08:00 from Larissa Station in Athens. Settle into a modern, air-conditioned coach with free Wi-Fi and USB charging sockets at every seat, and enjoy the changing scenery as you travel through the Greek countryside.
The early departure helps you get ahead of Athens’ morning traffic and make the most of your time in Meteora. From November to April, when the monasteries follow shorter winter opening hours, our itinerary is carefully scheduled to allow time to visit 3 monasteries inside.
Your first stop brings you to Camino Restaurant in Kamena Vourla for an optional seaside brunch. Stretch your legs, breathe in the sea air and enjoy coffee or a light meal just steps from the beach, with open views across the water.
Around 13:00, arrive in the picturesque village of Kastraki, nestled beneath Meteora’s immense rock formations. Choose the lunch option to enjoy a traditional Greek meal at Efrosino Tavern. Select from 10 dishes, including meat, vegetarian and vegan options, served with bread and water. You may also order and pay directly at the restaurant.
Then meet your local English-speaking tour leader and begin exploring Meteora. Hear the stories behind its extraordinary geology, centuries of monastic life and the people who built these sacred places high above the valley.
Step inside 3 active monasteries and enjoy photo stops with views of all 6. From sweeping panoramic viewpoints, admire the dramatic rock pillars and monasteries perched on their summits. You’ll also see the historic hermit caves, where the first monks came seeking peace and solitude.
During the shorter days from November to March, you may also experience the magic of sunset at Meteora. Watch the changing light and colors transform the rocks and monasteries—a beautiful finale to your visit, weather permitting. Complimentary bottled water is provided during the Meteora tour.
On the return journey, unwind with another stop at Camino for an optional dinner or drink by the sea. For both seaside stops, scan the QR code on the bus to pre-order and prepay from an à la carte menu, leaving you more time to relax and enjoy the setting.
A free smart audio guide in 11 languages adds to your experience. After a day of extraordinary scenery, local stories and Greek flavors, relax on the coach back to Larissa Station, arriving at approximately 22:30.
