DAY 01:
7:30am to 8:00am - Pick-up from hotels in downtown Arequipa.
8:00 AM - We begin our journey to one of the deepest and most beautiful canyons in the world. Our base of operations will be the town of Chivay , which we will reach in approximately 4 hours, including all tourist stops. Our first stop will be Pampa Cañahuas , where we can observe the vicuñas that inhabit this area. Nearby, we will visit Patahuasi to drink traditional coca tea , an essential beverage for altitude sickness (soroche). Next, we will make a brief stop at the Toccra Wetlands , where we will see a large number of alpacas grazing freely. A mandatory stop is the Mirador de los Volcanes (Volcanoes Viewpoint ), the highest point on the road at 4,800 meters above sea level , from where we will appreciate a large part of the western mountain range. From this point, it will only be 40 minutes to reach the town of Chivay.
12:30 pm - We will arrive in Chivay for a delicious lunch (at the client's expense). After lunch, we will check into our respective hotels. In the afternoon, you can enjoy a relaxing soak in the hot springs (optional entrance fee at the client's expense), where the thermal waters range from 35C to 38C in the pools.
For dinner (at the customer's expense) we will be able to enjoy a folkloric show with typical dances of the area.
Overnight in Chivay
DAY 02:
Breakfast. After breakfast, we will travel to the Cruz del Cóndor viewpoint , located about an hour away. This viewpoint offers stunning views of the Colca Canyon and the spectacular flight of the condor . We will spend approximately 45 minutes here to admire the beauty of the Colca Canyon.
On the way back we will stop at the viewpoints in the area from where we will observe the impressive terraced fields of the valley and in the town of Maca, where we will see its church and optionally taste local drinks such as the Colca Sour, made from local products.
1:00 PM – We begin our journey towards the city of Puno, where we will make two stops along the way. We will stop at the Mirador de los Volcanes (Volcano Viewpoint ), which is also the highest point on the road (4800 meters above sea level), from where we will appreciate a large part of the western mountain range. Our last stop will be the Mirador de Lagunillas (Lagunillas Viewpoint ), where we can appreciate the lagoon in all its splendor.
7:30pm – Arrival in the city of Puno; we will drop you
