Activity itinerary

Museo Frida Kahlo
  • 1h 30m
The Blue House is the intimate universe of Frida Kahlo. She spent most of her life here, first with her family and, years later, with Diego Rivera. Interesting national and foreign characters stayed in this place, attracted by the magnetism of both painters. Frida and Diego wanted to leave their house as a museum for the enjoyment of all Mexicans. On the painter's death, the couple's friend, the museographer and poet Carlos Pellicer, planned the museography. The administration was entrusted to the Trust of the Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo Museums, attached to the Bank of Mexico and established by Rivera himself in 1957. Since its inauguration in July 1958, the Blue House and its gardens have exhibited personal objects and paintings by both artists, popular art, pre-Columbian sculptures, photographs, documents, books and furniture that formed the environment in which Frida was inspired to to create.
Museo Diego Rivera Anahuacalli
  • 1h
With your ticket you can also visit ( on your own) Museo Diego Rivera Anahuacalli. Throughout his life, Diego Rivera assembled an impressive collection of pre-Hispanic figures, which he called "the idol". In 1941, after returning from his trip to San Francisco, Rivera undertook the construction of this project, which sought to generate continuity between modern art and pre-Columbian aesthetics. The painter chose the land of Pedregal de San Ángel, which previously surrounded the Xitle volcano. He had acquired them, along with Frida Kahlo, in order to build a farm. Later, thinking of leaving a legacy to the people of Mexico, Diego Rivera imagined the Anahuacalli as a unique architectural work; a City of Arts in permanent creation. Nearly two thousand Teotihuacan, Olmec, Toltec, Nahua, Zapotec and northwestern Mexican figures accompany us on a journey from the underworld to the sun.
