4h hike, 5.5 km, 250m ascent.
The route begins at the Messe picnic area, a few kilometers below the summit of Maïdo. Passing by the Maïdo Cave, we follow the trail leading us to “Ti Col”. From there, we enjoy the breathtaking view of the entire Mafate cirque. You'll learn all about the history and daily life of this incredible amphitheater, only accessible on foot!
We then continue on a pleasant path along the cliff, through a forest of highland Tamarind trees, all the way to Piton des Orangers. All along, we are treated to panoramic views of Mafate from atop this 1,000-meter-high cliff.
The trail then leads us downhill on the gentle and enjoyable “Tête Dure” track. Finally, we follow the wide, flat 1800 track, which brings us back to our starting point.
