Explore Luanda: History, Culture & Local Life
Join us on a walking journey through Luanda’s soul, where past and present meet, in art, architecture, markets, and people.
• Start at the Currency Museum, uncovering Angola’s economic evolution from colonial times to today, coins and notes tell the story of our changing world, power, and identity.
• Stroll along Luanda Bay, breathe the sea air, enjoy sweeping waterfront views, and snap unforgettable photos.
• Visit the Mausoleum of Dr. António Agostinho Neto, Angola’s first President. This striking monument honors his legacy as a leader, poet, and national symbol of independence.
• Visit the Church of Our Lady of Remedies (Igreja de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios), built in 1628, restored in the late 19th century, declared a Public Interest building in 1949. It’s a living monument of faith, colonial architecture, and spiritual heritage.
• Walk down Rua dos Mercadores (Merchant Street), one of Luanda’s oldest streets (17th century). Once a hub of trade, including goods like ivory, rubber, wine and deeply marked by history, now alive with local art, and stories.
• Explore the National Museum of Anthropology in Coqueiros, founded in 1976. With 14 rooms of exhibits, you’ll see traditional tools, musical instruments, masks, photographs, and art from Angola’s many tribes: Bakongo, Ovimbundu, Ambundu, Khoisan, and more. Learn how these pieces shape community, belief, and daily life.
• Wander through a local art market, where local artisans display handcrafted works, wood, textiles, jewelry, paintings, and where you can feel the creative energy of Angola today.
At the end of the tour, choose to dine in a restaurant of your preference (local or international), we’ll recommend options. Our guide tailors the route based on your interests so you leave with memories that matter. Tour ends with drop-off at your desired location.
