Take a local Keihan train (non-express) from Platform 2 at Fushimi Inari Station for 5 minutes to Sumizome Station, then walk another 5 minutes to arrive at Shizuhamo, a traditional Kyoto machiya space dedicated to tea ceremony and ikebana culture. From the moment you step through the gate, the atmosphere feels like a journey back 100 years into old Kyoto. Especially at night, the soft light reflecting on the traditional white shoji screens, fusuma sliding doors, and earthen walls creates a uniquely tranquil and immersive atmosphere. The first floor is arranged as a winter tea room, while the second floor reflects a summer tea room setting. Throughout the machiya, guests can freely enjoy various hands-on cultural exhibits related to tea ceremony and ikebana—such as a traditional stone tea mill and folding screens—while following a self-guided audio tour.
