During the North Etna tour, we explore the most authentic side of Mount Etna, stopping at some of the most iconic and less touristy locations of the northern slope. The experience starts with a visit to the Grotta del Caruccio, a natural lava cave formed by ancient lava flows, where guests can understand how lava tunnels are created inside the volcano. We then stop at a mountain refuge surrounded by Etna’s forests, a perfect place to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the volcanic landscape. The tour continues through the lava fields created by the 2002 eruption, one of the most powerful and transformative eruptions of recent history, before reaching the Monti Sartorius area, where we enjoy an easy trekking among lateral craters, lava formations and panoramic views. The experience ends at Piano Provenzana, the main base on Etna’s north side, where guests can relax and optionally enjoy a lunch break.
