What you can expect

  • The Erawan Museum in Samut Prakan, near Bangkok, is a striking cultural landmark known for its massive three-headed elephant statue and its blend of Thai art, history, and spirituality. Designed by the late Lek Viriyaphant, the museum offers a journey through Thai mythology and cosmology across its three levels.

The most iconic feature is the 43.6-meter tall, 250-ton three-headed elephant statue, representing the mythical Erawan from Hindu lore. Inside the statue, the museum is divided into three symbolic levels:

    • Underworld (Basement): This level houses rare antiques and artifacts from Thailand’s past, including ancient ceramics and art pieces, symbolizing the material world.
    • Earth (Main Hall): The central level, with a breathtaking hall featuring stained glass ceilings and intricate carvings, blends Western and Eastern art, representing the human world.
    • Heaven (Upper Level): Located within the elephant’s belly, this tranquil space represents the spiritual realm, housing important Buddhist relics.

The museum's architecture is a work of art, combining Thai, Khmer, and European styles, with hand-carved staircases, statues, and colorful glasswork. The grounds include a serene garden filled with ponds, sculptures, and shrines for visitors to relax and reflect.

The Erawan Museum is an extraordinary destination, offering a deep cultural experience, from the fascinating myths it portrays to the impressive craftsmanship that preserves Thailand’s spiritual and artistic heritage.
