What you can expect
Start your day with a deep dive into the authentic soul of Djerba. This small-group tour, led by a knowledgeable local guide, takes you on a journey through history, culture, and tradition — far from the crowds and tourist traps.
After a morning pickup directly from your hotel, you’ll head south across the famous Roman Causeway — an ancient road built over 2,000 years ago by the Romans to connect Djerba to the mainland. As you drive over it, your guide will share how this narrow strip of land became a key part of regional trade routes between the Phoenicians and Romans.
Your next stop is Guellala, a village known across Tunisia for its traditional pottery. Here, you'll enter a working artisan workshop where potters still use ancestral methods to mold and fire their creations in open kilns. If you're interested in local culture, an optional visit to the Guellala Museum offers panoramic views over the island and insights into Berber customs and Djerbian identity (museum entry not included).
Then, you'll continue to one of Djerba’s most sacred and symbolic places: the El Ghriba Synagogue. Nestled in the heart of the Jewish village, this holy site is believed to be among the oldest synagogues in the world. As you walk through its peaceful courtyard and vibrant blue-and-white interiors, your guide will explain the rich history of Djerba’s Jewish community and its role in the island’s unique multicultural identity.
Next, you'll discover Djerbahood, an extraordinary open-air street art project in the village of Erriadh. Over 150 murals by artists from around the world adorn the whitewashed walls of this traditional village, creating a vibrant contrast between old and new. Every corner is a photo opportunity, and every artwork tells a story — from social commentary to abstract expression.
To end the tour, you’ll head to Houmt Souk, the island’s bustling capital. Here, you'll enjoy free time to explore the medina, visit historic caravanserais (old trading inns), or simply stroll through local markets. You’ll have the chance to taste local pastries, buy handcrafted souvenirs, or chat with shopkeepers — all at your own rhythm.
After this rich cultural immersion, your driver will take you back to your hotel early afternoon, just in time to relax or enjoy lunch by the sea.
