What you can expect
Begin your journey with an early transfer to Kurikadduwan Jetty, where you’ll board a local boat and cross the shallow, turquoise waters to Delft Island. As you arrive, the island’s quiet, time-paused atmosphere sets in immediately—no cars, just bicycles, horses, and open landscapes. Your tour starts with a ride across coral-stone roads to see the famous wild ponies roaming freely, a rare and unexpected sight. You’ll visit the historic Delft Fort, built by the Portuguese and later used by the Dutch, followed by the ancient Baobab tree believed to be over 500 years old. Continue to the coral walls and pigeon nests, learning how the island’s unique coral geology shapes daily life. You’ll stop at Hindu temples and a mosque that reflect the island’s multicultural roots, then enjoy time by the coastline, taking in sweeping sea views and salty island air. Throughout the day, you’ll experience authentic island life, interact with locals, and end the tour feeling like you’ve discovered one of Sri Lanka’s most untouched destinations.
