Deep Sea Fishing - Near Shore,
Our shorter charter option ranges up to 10 miles off-shore. While we often try a little surface trolling if the fish are biting, the emphasis on our shorter trip is bottom fishing. Using electric reels we deep drop in 600 to 1,200 feet (200 to 400m) of water. Closer in to shore we switch to traditional reels, hand cranking over several reefs and wrecks.
The typical surface catch is Tuna, Mahi-Mahi (Dorado), Kingfish and Barracuda. Bottom fishing usually brings up Queen and Silk Snapper, Grouper, Triggerfish, Yellow Tail Snapper and the odd Tilefish.
St Maarten Deep Sea Fishing - 7 Hour
Best bang for buck for serious anglers. Our 3/4 Day, 7.5 hour Charter gives you the best chance (weather permitting) to get further off-shore and go after the bigger pelagics like Mahi-Mahi, Wahoo and Tuna. While there's always a good chance of pulling in a good fish just off-shore, our chances go up exponentially if we have time to get out into colder, deeper waters. If you're more into bottom fish, then the longer trip gives us much more bottom time as well as the option of ranging further afield.
Whether you'd prefer surface trolling or going after the bottom critters (or a little of both!). The choice is yours. Of course, we always offer our recommendations based on seasonality and prevailing weather conditions. We'll gear up appropriately to make the most of your day out on the salt.
For trolling, we use conventional 50 and 80 reels and 80 to 130 custom rods, spooled with 80lb test mono and braid. We run a varied spread of artificial lures and baited skirts.
For bottom rigs, we use electric reels for deep-dropping in 500+ feet or lighter rod/reel/tackle for inshore bottom fish.
