Enjoy a private cultural and dining experience inside Shizuhamo, a 100-year-old machiya officially designated an Important Kyoto Townhouse by Kyoto City. Begin with a beautifully presented seasonal shojin ryori lunch or dinner. This traditional Zen Buddhist cuisine is prepared without meat or fish and features dishes such as handmade goma-dofu, simmered seasonal vegetables, and other delicately crafted specialties rarely served outside temple settings. After your meal, enjoy local Japanese wagashi and take part in a hands-on tea ceremony. Using an authentic kettle, bamboo ladle, tea bowl, and whisk, you will prepare your own matcha with guidance from your host. Chairs are available, so sitting in seiza is not required. You will also explore two authentic tea rooms, a traditional mizuya preparation area, and a tranquil Japanese garden.
