Samtavro Monastery is a complex consisting of the Samtavro-Transfiguration Church and the St. Nina Women's Monastery. It is the burial place of the first Georgian king, Mirian of Iberia, and Queen Nana, who adopted Christianity, and the relics of St. Gabriel of Samtavro are also kept there.

Svetitskhoveli is the largest historical church building among the survived ones in Georgia. It has been the religious center of Christian Georgia for centuries. Like almost all Georgian orthodox churches, it has a fortified fort around it. Regarded as the holiest place in Georgia, Svetitskhoveli's claim to fame is its significance in Georgian Orthodoxy. A small stone church was built inside the Cathedral at the end of the 13th and the beginning of the 14th century, adding to its historical and architectural value. One of the greatest religious holidays of Georgia, Mtskhetoba-Svetitskhovloba, is dedicated to the Life-Giving Pillar and the Tunic of the God, further emphasizing the importance of this site in Georgian culture and religious traditions.
