Overview

  • This experience takes place in the same pastoral village and garden as the beloved Cafer Çavuş soap-making workshop. Here, the connection to land is everything. You’re not just learning recipes: you’re cooking beside locals who still gather herbs from the mountains, bake bread in stone ovens, and share stories by the fire. Guests often say they come for the food, but leave with a sense of belonging.

Activity itinerary

Join a rustic Turkish cooking experience in a quiet mountain village above Fethiye. In a wide garden surrounded by olive trees, you'll cook over an open wood fire just like the Yörüks (the nomadic people of this region) have done for generations. The host, from the small local brand Cafer Çavuş, will guide you in preparing traditional dishes like kuru fasulye with rice, Turkish pilaf, cacik and one of the favorite traditional desserts: helva. You’ll cook together in the open air and eat under the trees, with goats grazing nearby and the scent of firewood in the breeze. As your host says: “To understand Turkish food, you must first feel the land it comes from. That’s why we cook like this.” This is more than a meal — it’s a deep dive into Yörük cooking, outdoor living, and a way of life still alive in Türkiye’s countryside.
